MEET THE DOCTORS
Dr. Ann Voss O.D., Diplomate, ABO, FCOVD
Dr. Ann Voss is the Founder and Director of Bellaire Family Eye Care, and the Vision Learning Centers. Her daily commitment to serving her patients with quality eye care, innovative solutions, and a caring attitude distinguishes her in the eye care community. Her passion is helping people of all ages find the best visual solutions possible to address their vision and eye health needs.
As an expert in the area of vision and learning, Dr. Voss provides educational and training programs to educators, parents, and healthcare groups. Her programs help healthcare providers and teachers recognize vision problems that impact successful learning. She also consults with textbook publishers regarding graphics, fonts, and colors that impact ease of reading and learning of text through the visual system. She works closely with other health professionals, including ophthalmologists, pediatricians, speech and language specialists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and psychologists, to provide the best all-around care for patients needing diverse services.
Dr. Voss lives near in Bellaire and has two awesome kids Grace is a student at USC and Ben is a student at Xavier Academy.
Dr. Marcia Moore O.D., FCOVD
Dr. Marcia Moore has been a valuable part of our team since 2008. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University Of Houston College Of Optometry. She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, as a member of Phi Beta Kappa honors society, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology with High Honors, and has a fellowship in vision development.
Since joining the Bellaire Family Eye Care team as one of our eye doctors, Dr. Moore also set up an office in Weimar, Texas to provide diagnostic testing and vision therapy similar to our own clinic in Bellaire. Dr. Moore has a passion for vision development and helping patients use their vision to its fullest potential.
Dr. Moore and her family live in Bellaire, Texas. They have two young children and enjoy spending every second with them. They also enjoy any activity that gets them outside, including gardening and playing with their dog, Chip.
Dr. Ashley Tucker O.D., FAAO, FSLS
Dr. Ashley Tucker joined our practice during the summer of 2011. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Cell Science before going on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of Houston College of Optometry.
While in optometry school, Dr. Tucker earned several Letters of Excellence for her clinical work and several awards, including the Vistakon excellence in Contact Lens Patient Care Award and the Metro Optics Excellence award.
Dr. Tucker completed a Cornea and Contact Lens Residency at the University of Houston where she received extensive training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of corneal diseases and in complex contact lens fits including patients with keratoconus, corneal transplants, and refractive surgery. Dr. Tucker has a passion for fitting scleral contact lenses and regularly receives referrals from her fellow Optometrists and Ophthalmologists to manage patients in need of specialty contact lenses. In addition, she has earned her Fellowship from the Scleral Lens Society which distinguishes her as an expert scleral lens fitter. Dr. Tucker is also passionate about myopia control. She has several years of experience in fitting orthokeratology lenses in both children and adults. Although she has particular expertise in contact lenses, Dr. Tucker provides full scope eye care to all of her patients.
Dr. Tucker is also a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Houston College of Optometry where she is the Coursemaster for the Ophthalmic Optics Laboratory. Through her affiliation with the University of Houston, she provides continuing education on the topics of specialty contacts lenses and ophthalmic optics.
Dr. Tucker is originally from Louisiana, but she and her family relocated to Florida while she was in high school. She currently resides in the Pearland area and enjoys spending her free time with her husband, daughter, and son.
MEET THE STAFF
Joseph Wakeland COVT, CSVT – Manager and Head Therapist
Joseph joined our team in September of 2006. After years of therapy training and study, Joseph became board certified by the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) in 2011. As a gifted therapist, Joseph now leads the Vision Learning Center as manager, developing new programs and implementing training protocols for other therapists. Whether working with a young child struggling to read across a page or assisting an athlete who has suffered a head injury, Joseph masterfully guides his patients to help them thrive at their highest potential. Joseph is married to Melissa who together have a wonderful baby boy.
Jose Martinez COVT, CSVT – Operations Manager
Jose joined the Vision and Learning Team in 2003 as an Optometric Vision Therapist and Special Education liaison. As a former Special Education teacher/administrator and math specialist, Jose has a strong desire to help others find their strengths while improving their weaknesses. This military veteran is highly organized and disciplined – a great combination to help patients of all ages. The College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) has board certified Jose as a Certified Optometric Vision Therapist (COVT). And Dynamic Edge Certified in Sport Vision Trainer (CSVT).
Natesha Williams COVT – Senior Therapist
Natesha began her journey at the Vision Learning Center in May of 2010. Her work history stems from 9 years in the early childhood field. She attended Sam Houston State University where she underwent extensive studies in early child development and education. After three years of service with the VLC, Natesha went on to pursue her certification in optometric vision therapy. Her philosophy is simple, “Invest now….benefit later! She has a strong conviction that quality early education and a strong family support system pays off in a myriad of benefits to children, their families and society as a whole!!!” Natesha strives daily to aid in strengthening and encouraging patients to reach their individual goals in and out of the therapy room. She enjoys dancing and outdoor activities, but her favorite past time is spending time with her beautiful and witty daughter Kennedi and her ever supportive husband, Christopher. The College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD) has board certified Natesha as a Certified Optometric Vision Therapist (COVT).
Norma Munoz OVT – Reading Specialist
Norma joined the Vision Learning Center in March 2015. She has a B.A. in Linguistics from the Catholic University of Quito, Ecuador. Throughout her 30 year professional career she has worked in elementary schools as a teacher and as a reading specialist. In 2006 she received her license as a Brain Gym Instructor and created a Foundation to implement educational programs in the area of reading and the importance of vision in learning for low income teachers, students and families. She has been married for 27 years and a proud mom of two grown sons.
Jonathan Cruz OVT, CSVT
Jonathan started working for Vision Learning Center in September of 2013. He graduated from University of St. Thomas in 2015 with a degree in Communications and continuing his education to get into Optometry School. Since high school, Jonathan has always known he has wanted to become a doctor. Being able to work as a vision therapist has allowed him to grow in the field and reassure his over dream of becoming an Optometrist.
Nicole Ferreyros OVT, CSVT – Therapist
From a young age Nicole always knew she wanted to work with the eyes and visual system. Her journey began in 2005, when she got a job as a receptionist at an optometrist office. Within a year she became an optician there, while also obtaining her Bachelors in Chemistry from MSU Denver. Knowing her passion for wanting to help others as well as being intrigued by the brain and eyes, Nicole began to learn more about Vision Therapy and that this field would be a great fit for her. In order to follow this dream Nicole moved from Denver to Houston to start her career as a vision therapist. She is now certified in Sport Vision Training as well.
Hillary Reeves OVT
Hillary has been in the eye care field since 2010 filling a variety of roles from assisting the doctor and performing specialized testing to helping you pick out awesome new glasses. In January 2015, she helped start a vision therapy clinic within a private practice in Iowa. It was shortly after her first vision therapy patient started that she realized she had found her passion and true calling in her career life! She is intrigued with the science of vision therapy and always strives to perfect the art of vision therapy. With a cheerful smile and a positive demeanor she will help you reach your potential and experience success!
Hillary grew up in a small town in Iowa and shortly after graduating college she moved to Des Moines in search of an esthetics job but switched her career to optometry, with no regrets! In April 2016 she moved to Texas (following her younger sister who moved the year prior) and has thoroughly enjoyed living in Texas along with her loving parents and grandmother. Outside the office, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, volunteering with her congregation, reading, bike riding and walking her dog on the beach of Galveston.
Odis Garrett, OVT
Odis joined the Vision Learning Center in the summer of 2017. He plans to complete a double degree in biology and leadership studies in 2018 from the University of St. Thomas. Odis has received awards and valuable experience from internships with ExxonMobil and Volunteer Houston. He also brings experience from managing two health & fitness exhibits and a biology lab at two local children museums in Houston. He plans to use his experience as a vision therapist to further his goals of becoming a medical professional. Odis is excited about the potential to learn and support patients along with their journey in vision therapy and contribute to the overall goal of better vision for each patient.
Deborah Hoffman – Patient Coordinator
Deborah is responsible for scheduling new and returning patients who are in need of our specialized services. She joined our team in June of 2012. She is your number one contact for any questions regarding Developmental Visual Evaluations, Neurosensory assessments, vision therapy services and has a wealth of information to families seeking support. Deborah has a special bond with every patient that is genuine and pure. With such an up-lifting personality, she makes everyone feel warm and welcomed. She got a laugh that’s out of this world and hard to forget. Being part of the glue that helps hold the office together, Deborah is your go to person for all your vision therapy needs. Her favorite past time is spending time with her son Dylan and husband Daryl.
Kendri Horace – Front Desk Administrator
Kendri is one of our front desk administrators here at The Vision Learning Center. With the patient and their family always in mind, she always puts forth her best effort to complete any tasks necessary to not only meet but go beyond their expectations. Reassuring the patients that we are here every step of the way. Insurance verifications, handling payments, and scheduling are just a few of her duties here. Coming from a very loving and family-oriented background has helped shape her into the supportive hard-worker that she is today. Kendri has a son named Hunter whom she loves and adores so much. If you ever have a quick moment, she always has a story to tell or picture to share of how he constantly keeps her going both mentally and physically. Juggling work, school and being a (first time) mother, she thrives in giving her all with everything she is involved in, and nothing less. As a team member of The Vision Learning Center we are here to help guide, support, and push you to achieve your visual goals both big and small.
